After months of taking my advised rest to heal from the thrombosis, I had to learn to use and trust my body again. At least I was allowed to make an appointment with my physical therapist. A professional woman, who I know for many years. She wondered what happened. My physical health looked like a woman in her eightish. I knew I was in bad shape, but what I didn’t know at that point… healing would take longer than I imagined.
A short walk from approximately one kilometer made me sleep for an hour. To get more active again and build my endurance, my therapist advised biking, besides the exercises she gave me to strengthen my torn ankles.
I always liked sports. Running, X-Core (XCO), HIIT, and boxing were my favorite sports. Biking wasn’t my thing, and since my favorite sports weren’t an option jet, I tried. At first, I was too tired to do both my exercises and biking in one day. I got frustrated! My simple daily activities were too exhausting, and so was biking. I had trouble getting on and off my bike. I wasn’t used to the traffic anymore.
From that moment on, I did something every day. I went walking and doing my exercises, or I went out for a bike ride. After a short time, a friend came to help me. He took me outside, walking in different areas. My world had become little—me in my house, with my daughter visiting me on the weekends.
I managed to succeed in biking. It took me months, weeks, days, and hours to get better stamina. It’s was a struggle, and it is still not a stable jet. I’m always tired after small physical and mental efforts. It has a great impact on my life. Because it’s very different from the way I used to live. I started to like biking and love to be outside, so a first positive step in recovering from thrombosis.
